For nacelle-interior pipe clamps, the dominant classification is C5-M regardless of zone. The environmental conditions inside the nacelle — salt aerosol ingress, humidity cycling, vibration — are functionally the same across all UK offshore sites. SS 316L is the correct body material for all UK offshore nacelle applications.

Lloyd's Register has a particularly strong presence in UK offshore wind projects, especially in the Dogger Bank zone. For projects where LR is the certifying body, a Lloyd's Register type approval or vendor qualification is preferred alongside or instead of DNV.

§ 04 — UKCA Marking vs CE Marking: What It Means for Pipe Clamps

Following Brexit, the UK introduced its own product marking scheme, UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed), which from 2025 is required for products placed on the GB market that previously required CE marking. For pipe clamps used in pressure equipment applications, this has the following practical impact:

  • CE marking is no longer accepted for new GB market supply on products where UKCA applies (Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales). Northern Ireland continues to accept CE marking under the Windsor Framework.
  • UKCA requires a UK-based approved body for conformity assessment where third-party assessment was required under the equivalent EU directive. For pressure equipment clamps (UK SI 2016/1105), a UK Approved Body is needed.
  • Practical path for Chinese suppliers: engage a UK Approved Body (e.g., Lloyd's Register, LRQA, BSI, TÜV UK) for UKCA conformity assessment. The technical requirements are identical to PED — the difference is administrative and body location.
  • For non-pressure-equipment clamps (structural pipe support, cable support, non-pressurised runs), UKCA marking is not required and the supply documentation path is unchanged.
Practical note: Most UK offshore OEMs specify clamps as structural supports rather than pressure equipment line items, which means CE/UKCA marking for PED is not always triggered in practice. Confirm the project's classification of pipe clamps with the procurement team before incurring UKCA certification cost.

DNV-ST-0119 defines general principles and requirements for floating wind structures. IEC 61914 defines requirements and tests for cable cleats, while ISO 12944-9 addresses offshore coating systems within its scope. None alone qualifies a clamp installation on a moving floater.

Combine cable OD and formation, declared restraint performance, support motion, fatigue, bend control, corrosion, splash exposure, fixing substrate, inspection access and replaceability. Require evidence that matches the offered assembly and installation geometry.
